coming-of-age ceremony

  My daughter had intended to attend a coming- of- age ceremony this year.
  On 8 Jan. Friday, my daughter came to Hita from Saga by train.

   I’ve heard in Kokonoe town, the coming- of -age ceremony is held in August, so girls don’t wear Kimono. But in HIta city it is held in January, that make girls very conscious about their out-fit. Almost all of them wear Kimono, including my daughter.

   She had to bring Kimono and some necessaries  to a beauty salon by 8 Friday. She drove my car to the beauty salon and a photo studio to make an appointment having taken her photo on 10 January.
  She had made a car insuranse for one day at a convenience store to drive my car on the day. It is literally convenient. She had applied it to an insurance company  via internet in advance, then went to a convenience store and printed the document out and payed 500 yen.

   On 9, she went to a class reunion of her high school. She met many ex-teachers and ex-classmates. They updated each other.
  On 10 , I took my daughter to a beauty salon by 8 o’clock, it took about two hours to wear Kimono and make up. After that we went to a photo studio. I was glad to see she was very ladylike.
  I gave her a ride to Patoria Hita. There were crowded of cars sending new adults.
 
 She paid the beauty parlor by herself from the money her granny and uncle. I paid for the photo and cleaning the Kimono which my niece wore on her coming-of-age ceremony. She wore the Kimono three times, on the ceremony, on her commencement, and her elder brother’s wedding ceremony. She said she was satisfied and glad to lent it to my daughter.
 For two hours’ ceremony it was a big deal. I will send a photo copy to my mother.

 In the evening there was a class reunion of junior high school, I gave her a ride to a pub. She met ex teachers and ex classmates. She was surprised to hear that one of her friends pay rent 70000 yen in Tokyo. And many boys are working already.

 Because the next day was holiday, I gave her a ride to Saga in the morning. As usual she would to go to work at an ice cream shop from 3:00 to 9:00.

 娘が今年成人式に出ることにしていた。８日金曜日、佐賀から電車で日田に帰ってきた。
九重町は８月に成人式をするので、女の子たちは着物は着ないと聞いた。でも、日田市は１月にするので、女の子たちは着るものを気にする。大抵の子は着物を着る。娘もそう。

　着物とその他必要なものは８日金曜日でに美容院に持っていっておかなくてはいけなかった。娘は自分で私の車を運転して美容院へ行き、写真やさんで１０日に写真を撮ってもらう予約をしてきた。
  1日だけ運転するためにコンビニで車の保険をかけた。文字通り、便利だ。前もってインターネットで保険会社に申し込みをしてコンビニへ行ってプリントアウトして500円払った。
　９日に高校の同窓会があった。当時の先生方とクラスメートたちと会った。お互いに近況を教え合った。
　１０日朝８時までに美容院に連れて行った、着付けと化粧で2時間くらいかかった。それから写真やさんへ行った。大人っぽくてよかった。
　パトリア日田へ送って行った。新成人を送ってくる車で混み合っていた。
　娘はおばあちゃんとおじさんからもらったお祝いから美容院代を払った。私は写真と着物のクリーニング代を払った。着物は姪が成人式で着たものだ。姪は成人式、大学の卒業式、お兄さんの結婚式と３回それを着た。もとはとった、と言って喜んで娘に貸してくれた。
　２時間くらいの式のために大騒ぎだった。写真を母に送ろうと思う。
　その夕方は中学校の同窓会だった。娘を居酒屋に送って行った。先生方にも友達にもたくさん会えたそうだ。東京に行った友達が家賃７万円と聞いて驚いていた。男の子たちでもう働いている人がたくさんいることにも。
　翌日は祝日だったので、朝、私が佐賀まで送って行った。いつものように３時から９時までアイスクリーム屋でバイトだそうだ。
