On 23 Sat. I went to Fukuoka city for two reasons. First, I intended to go to movie, second, to to a meeting.
I went to KBC cinema1-2 to see the “Oyster Factory” and to listen to the director’s talk. It is a documentaly film. Mr. Kazuhiro Soda filmed it at Ushimado in Okayama prefecture.
In this district there are some oyster factories. Recently the number of workers who shuck oysters are decreasing. Since the Japanese workers are getting older and young Japanese never come to work, young Chinese are working now.
In this movie, there are some Chinese workers in Ushimado, and one day, new Chinese workers come to Mr.Watanabe’s oyster factory.
Mr. Watanabe used to be a fisherman in Minamisanriku, after the 3/11 disaster he evacuated with his wife and young children. Thanks to some relationship, he has moved to Ushimado and is running an oyster factory
There used to be more factories, but now the number of those are decreasing, because the successor is reducing. Maybe this is a lucky case.
An old fisherman who is not in good health condition, fortunately his son willing to succeed his business, but he can’t hand over his business to his son yet, because it is two and half years to be age 65. If he handed over under 65, his son must pay a gift tax.It’s large amount for his son. That’s why he’s still working feeling tough.
The Chinese men who have newly come look so earnest. But in the previous scene, some Japanese men were talking about a Chinese man who had back home only after five days. And they were talking about the culture gap between Japanese and Chinese.
After seeing the movie, there was a talk show.
The director Mr. Soda talked about how to getting closer to the people who he filmed. In this case his spouse’ grannie used to live in the town.And She knew some of the fishermen. It helped.
A woman asked him when the movie screened in foreign countries how did he display subtitles the movie. He replied he placed subtitles translate Japanese but Chinese. Because almost all audience see this movie feel wonder what those Chinese talk. It is important.
Actually he had no idea what they spoke at that time, later he asked his Taiwanese friend what they spoke. But the Taiwanese couldn’t understand then he asked a mainland Chinese, but he couldn’t understand only said the conversation sounded Shandong dialect and asked a man from Shandong,
The man couldn’t understand but guessed it was the neighboring village, after that he has understood what they said.
It was noting but you would get seasick when you on board a ship or something.
You are wonder if people are talking in foreign language you can’t understand. To let the audience feel that he didn’t place subtitle for the Chinese conversation.
He said Mr. Hirokawa Tyuich would come to here with screening “Human Battlefield” near future, with he director Mr. Hasegawa Saburo.
I’m so glad. It was the first time to go to KBC Cinema 1-2. I knew that the David Bowie’s film was screening on 6 Feb.
After that I walked to Daimyo to a drinking party.
I visited “Black Sheep”, a brutish pub. They have many king of beers.
I didn’t taste any alcohol this time. I’d like to go there by train or bus next time.
I left there at 10 o’clock, and came back home through the express way.
It was snowing and I was made to stop at Hagino SA to be checked the tires. The man who dealt with gave me a card telling studless and said if I would be stopped again, show it.
Fortunately I could come home before it snowed hard.
23日 土曜日、２つ用事があって福岡市に行った。一つは映画、もう一つはパーティ。
KBCシネマ１・２に『牡蠣工場』上映と監督のトークを見に行った。想田和弘監督が岡山県牛窓で撮ったドキュメンタリーだ。
その地区にはいくつかの牡蠣工場がある。最近は殻をむく仕事をする人の数が減っている。日本人のむき子さんが高齢化して若い人はこの仕事に就かないので、いまは若い中国人が働いている。
この映画では何人か牛窓で働いている中国人が出てくる。ある日わたなべさんの牡蠣工場に新しく中国人がやってくる。
わたなべさんは南三陸で牡蠣の仕事をしていたが、３・１１の地震のあと妻と幼い子どもを連れて避難した。いくつかのつながりがあって内窓に引っ越してきて牡蠣工場を経営している。
前はもっとたくさん工場があったが、後継者が減っているので工場の数も減っている。おそらく次はラッキーな例だろう。老いた人が健康状態は良くないというが、この人の息子が仕事を継ぐといっている。でもまだ息子に経営を譲ることはできない。６５歳になるまであと２年半あるから。もし、６５歳になる前に譲ると贈与税がかかってしまう。それは息子にとって負担が大きい。だから、きついといいながらまだ仕事をしている。
新しく来た中国人はまじめそうだ。しかし、その前のシーンで日本人の男たちが話していた中国人はたった５日仕事しただけで国に帰ってしまったという。日本人と中国人の風俗習慣の違いについても話していた。
上映のあと監督のトークがあった。
想田監督は映画に撮る人たちとどう親しくなるか話した。この映画の場合は彼の妻のおばあちゃんがここに住んでいて、何人か漁師さんも知り合いだった。それでうまく行った。
ある女性客が、海外で上映したときは字幕はどうしたのか質問した。監督は日本語は翻訳したけど中国語はしなかったと言った。なぜならこの映画を見る人のほとんどは中国人たちが何を話しているんだろう、と思うから。
実際、監督自身、そのときは彼らが何と言っているのかわからなかった。あとで、台湾人の友人に何と言っているのか聞いた。でもその台湾人はわからなかった。それで中国人の友人に聞いた、でも山東省らしいというだけでわからなかった。それで山東省出身の人に聞いた。
その人もわからなくて、でも隣の村だろうということはわかった。その後やっとなんと言っているかわかった。たいしたことは言っていなかった、船に乗ると船酔いするよ、とかそんなこと。
外国人同士が話していると、なんて言っているんだろうと思う。観客にそれを感じてもらうために中国語の会話には字幕をつけなかった。
広川隆一さんが『人間の戦場』の上映会にここに来られると話していた。監督の長谷川三郎さんといっしょに。
とてもうれしかった。KBCシネマ１・２に来たのは初めてだった。２月６日にデイヴィッド。ボウイの映画があることもわかった。
その後、大名まで歩いて行った。集まりがあるので。
「ブラックシープ」というブリチッシュパブに行った。ビールがたくさん種類があった。
今回はアルコールは試せなかったので、次に来るときは電車かバスで来ようと思った。
１０時にそこを出た。そして高速道路で帰った。
雪がふって萩野サービスエリアで止められてタイヤの点検をされた。かかりの人がスタッドレスタイヤだと書いてあるカードをくれて、次に止めたれたらこれを見せるとよいと言われた。
幸い、雪が激しくなる前にうちに帰った。

labor unions' new year meeting
On 15 Jan. I went to a new year meeting of collaborated labor unions in Hita district. From the union I belong to four members attended.
There were a few members of the municipal assembly, a member of a prefectural assembly, and a member of a Diet. The attendance were seemed very ambitious about the election to be planned on July.
Though I attended the party just to be sociable, I was glad to meet two teachers who had taken care of my children before. Especially I was very impressed to talk with a woman who is a principal of a junior high school. She goes to Saga university on Saturdays and Sundays till end of March to learn special support education. She also wiling to go to a graduate school after she will retire, She said she wanted to learn all the better she had worked. We talked about practicing speaking English. She encourages students at her junior high school to sit for Eiken. There is a student who has already passed second grade and prepares for pre-first.
After I had come home I texted to my daughter that she might meet her ex teacher at elementary school at campus on Saturdays or Sundays. She replied she didn’t think so because she rarely goes to university on Saturdays and Sundays.
Anyway she inspired me to have a dream for after retired.
１月１５日、日田地区の労働組合連合の新年会に行った。私の組合から４人出席した。
市会議員が2、3人、県議会議員が１人、国会議員が１人来ていた。出席している人たちは７月に予定されている選挙に意欲的だった。
おつきあいで行ったのだけど、以前、うちの子ども達がお世話になった先生２人に会えて嬉しかった。特にその一人は、いま中学の校長で、話していて心動かされた。
３月まで土日に佐賀大へ特別支援教育の講座を受けに行っているそうだ。退職したら院に行ってみたいとも話していた。働いてみたからこそ、勉強したいと思うことってある、と話していた。英語の学習についても話した。彼女は中学生達に英検を受けることを勧めていると言っていた。もう２級はもっていて準１級を受ける準備をしている子もいるとか。
帰宅してから、娘に小学校のときのH先生と土日に学校で会うかもよ、とメールした。娘は、どうかな、土日学校に行くことってめったにないから、と返してきた。
ともかく、先生のおかげで退職してから何かしたいと思ってもいいんだ、と励まされた。

coming-of-age ceremony
My daughter had intended to attend a coming- of- age ceremony this year.
On 8 Jan. Friday, my daughter came to Hita from Saga by train.
I’ve heard in Kokonoe town, the coming- of -age ceremony is held in August, so girls don’t wear Kimono. But in HIta city it is held in January, that make girls very conscious about their out-fit. Almost all of them wear Kimono, including my daughter.
She had to bring Kimono and some necessaries to a beauty salon by 8 Friday. She drove my car to the beauty salon and a photo studio to make an appointment having taken her photo on 10 January.
She had made a car insuranse for one day at a convenience store to drive my car on the day. It is literally convenient. She had applied it to an insurance company via internet in advance, then went to a convenience store and printed the document out and payed 500 yen.
On 9, she went to a class reunion of her high school. She met many ex-teachers and ex-classmates. They updated each other.
On 10 , I took my daughter to a beauty salon by 8 o’clock, it took about two hours to wear Kimono and make up. After that we went to a photo studio. I was glad to see she was very ladylike.
I gave her a ride to Patoria Hita. There were crowded of cars sending new adults.
She paid the beauty parlor by herself from the money her granny and uncle. I paid for the photo and cleaning the Kimono which my niece wore on her coming-of-age ceremony. She wore the Kimono three times, on the ceremony, on her commencement, and her elder brother’s wedding ceremony. She said she was satisfied and glad to lent it to my daughter.
For two hours’ ceremony it was a big deal. I will send a photo copy to my mother.
In the evening there was a class reunion of junior high school, I gave her a ride to a pub. She met ex teachers and ex classmates. She was surprised to hear that one of her friends pay rent 70000 yen in Tokyo. And many boys are working already.
Because the next day was holiday, I gave her a ride to Saga in the morning. As usual she would to go to work at an ice cream shop from 3:00 to 9:00.
娘が今年成人式に出ることにしていた。８日金曜日、佐賀から電車で日田に帰ってきた。
九重町は８月に成人式をするので、女の子たちは着物は着ないと聞いた。でも、日田市は１月にするので、女の子たちは着るものを気にする。大抵の子は着物を着る。娘もそう。
着物とその他必要なものは８日金曜日でに美容院に持っていっておかなくてはいけなかった。娘は自分で私の車を運転して美容院へ行き、写真やさんで１０日に写真を撮ってもらう予約をしてきた。
1日だけ運転するためにコンビニで車の保険をかけた。文字通り、便利だ。前もってインターネットで保険会社に申し込みをしてコンビニへ行ってプリントアウトして500円払った。
９日に高校の同窓会があった。当時の先生方とクラスメートたちと会った。お互いに近況を教え合った。
１０日朝８時までに美容院に連れて行った、着付けと化粧で2時間くらいかかった。それから写真やさんへ行った。大人っぽくてよかった。
パトリア日田へ送って行った。新成人を送ってくる車で混み合っていた。
娘はおばあちゃんとおじさんからもらったお祝いから美容院代を払った。私は写真と着物のクリーニング代を払った。着物は姪が成人式で着たものだ。姪は成人式、大学の卒業式、お兄さんの結婚式と３回それを着た。もとはとった、と言って喜んで娘に貸してくれた。
２時間くらいの式のために大騒ぎだった。写真を母に送ろうと思う。
その夕方は中学校の同窓会だった。娘を居酒屋に送って行った。先生方にも友達にもたくさん会えたそうだ。東京に行った友達が家賃７万円と聞いて驚いていた。男の子たちでもう働いている人がたくさんいることにも。
翌日は祝日だったので、朝、私が佐賀まで送って行った。いつものように３時から９時までアイスクリーム屋でバイトだそうだ。

Drive to Saga and Karatsu
On 3 January I gave my daughter a ride to her apartment house in Saga city.
She spent five days at my house, she should go back to Saga on 3, because she had to work on her shift at an ice-cream shop from 3 o’clock.
She wanted to arrive at her house until 12:30, because she asked to deliver something during 12:30-14:00.
We left Hita at 8:30 a.m. When we almost arrived at her apartment house, she noticed she left her house key behind. She called her landlord company, but the phone number was under automatic reply, “Call on 6 January again”. She had no private phone number of someone deal with on the company.
The landlord was changed last autumn, it used to be a person who lived in Karatsu city, then it succeeded to a company. She called her if she knew someone’s phone number we ask for alternative key.
She replied she would seek and call my daughter later. After five or more minutes she called back.
The ex landlady was so kind to tell that she would come to Saga in one and half hour to bring the key.
My daughter said thank you and she hung up. But after I heard she would come, I said to my daughter to call her again and tell her we would go to Karatsu station to meet her.
Then we left Saga to Karatsu. The distance from Saga to Karatsu is almost same as from Hita to Beppu. We were so touched how kind the ex landlady was. If I or my daughter were in her shoes, both of us were not sure to be kind enough to deliver a key even if a girl was confused.
To be strictly, it was not good that ex landlady kept the tenant’s key, but in this case we were helped. If we got the round trip to Hita, it might take over 4 hours, and my daughter weren’t in time of her working hours.
She made a mistake. She put her house key on the shelf we usually put our house key. It was no need taking out her key from her bag.
It was unfortunate, but partly fortunate ‘cause we had not snow, it was not cold, it was just cloudy. The route to Karatsu was not crowded.
We arrived at her apartment house a little bit past 1:00 o’clock, the delivery had already left the card of absence communication slip.
I returned to Hita, and she would work from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.
１月３日 娘を佐賀市のアパートまで送って行った。うちで５日 間過ごして、３日には3時からアイスクリーム屋のバイトがあるから帰らないといけなかった。
宅急便の配達を１２時半から１４時の間にたのんでいたので１２時半までに着きたかった。日田を８時半に出た。ほとんどアパートに着いたという頃、アパートの鍵を家に置いてきたのに気付いた。大家の不動産やさんに電話してみたけど、電話は「１月６日にかけなおしてください」という自動応答だった。会社の誰か担当者の連絡先を持っていなかった。
大家さんは昨年の秋に前の大家さんから変わっていた。前の大家さんは唐津市に住んでいる人でその人から今の会社に引き継いだ。娘は前の大家さんが、合鍵を持っている今の会社の誰かの連絡先を知らないか電話して尋ねてみた。
探してあとからかけ直す、ということだった。それから５分かそこらして電話があった。
前の大家さんは親切にも１時間半くらいで佐賀まで鍵を持ってきてくれると言った。娘はお礼を言って電話を切った。でも、それを聞いて、私は娘に、こちらから唐津駅に行きますと電話をかけなさいと言った。
それから唐津に向かった。だいたいうちから別府まで行くのと同じくらいの距離だと思う。前の大家さんがなんて優しいんだろうと思った。私も娘も、同じ立場だったら、女の子が困っているとしても鍵を届けに行ってあげるというかどうかわからない。
厳密にいうと、前の大家さんが借家人の鍵をもっていることはよくないだろうけど、この場合は、助かった。もし、日田まで往復していたら４時間以上かかっただろうし、娘はバイトに遅れただろう。
娘はヘマをした。自分の家の鍵を、いつも鍵をおく棚に置いていた。かばんから鍵を出す必要はなかったのに。
不運だったけど、部分的には幸運だった。というのも雪は降ってなかったし寒くもなかったし、ただ曇ってた。唐津までの道も混んではいなかった。
娘のアパートには１時を少し過ぎて着いた。宅配便の不在連絡票が来ていた。
私は日田へ帰り、娘は３時から９時まで働くだろう。
