On 14 Saturday I went to the lecture of Severn Suzuki, held at Gashall 24 in Fukuoka city.
I searched into the google map. I found the Gashall 24 was near Fukuoka prefectural office. It seemed hustle and bustle area. I didn’t want to drive there.
Even if I can drive technically, I can’t understand at an intersection which district should I go, or which lane should I be. Last time or before last time I went to Fukuoka city, I parked my car on the road side and asked a few pedestrians which district I should go. I was exhausted.
This time I planned to drive to Yumetown Chikushino to parked my car, then I get on a bus for Hakata station and get off at Hasuike. My destination would be five minutes walk from the bus stop according to the google map.
To sit on a seat on a bus was much safer and more comfortable than to drive myself. The bus went through the urban expressway. There were some senior citizens who had IC transit card. I also used AreCore nimoca card. It was convenient.
While I was on the bus I saw a man in a wheelchair asked the driver to load his chair in the cargo room. The driver got off the bus and loaded the chair, then the man got on the bus after the man the driver got on. It took time. I remembered bases in Vancouver. They had a board on the floor, which the driver turned it to outside like a bridge. It became a slope which make a wheelchair or a stroller easy to get on. It looked not so expensive device. Maybe it will be helpful in Japan.
I arrived at Gashall 24. There were many young mothers and babies and toddlers. It was lively atmosphere.
Severn who had made a legacy speech at Rio de Janeiro now studying at University of Victoria and mother of two children.
Severn Suzuki talked the Fort McMurray’s wildfire. She explained what’s unconventional tar sand. It used to be ignored ‘cause it cost much. But recently the conventional method oil has become decreased. That’s why the previous Canadian government had planned to develop the unconventional tar sand. A hundred thousand people has evacuated as far with losing their homes.
She said we contributed the fire, typhoon, flood, etc. The biodiversity is decreasing. With the urbanization the cultural diversity is diminishing.
She talked about the Paris climate change agreement, it was great success. Before Paris agreement, the limit of emissions to relatively safe levels was 2C, but scientist persuade that “2 degrees is too much”. Without action warming was predicted to reach a level that would reach unprecedented level and the glove rendered uninhabitable.
Scientist has warned, but big company has spread their opposition to the global warming. It up to us.
We should complete our energy system to sustainable one. In Canada, about tar sand there were no transparency same as in Japan about nuclear power plants. For energy policy it is needed accountability, diversity and responsibility.
Also it is needed the inter-generational justice. Only in Hungary, there is an ombudsman to cares about future generation.
There are two aspect we should do, to reduce the wastes as an individual, to change the system as a political issue.
The climate issue is a chance to make the policy being justice, transparent.
She has met many mothers against war, against nuclear power plants. It may be most exiting time in the history. We are powerful. We leap into a new paradigm.
Grandfather in politics, grandmother in politics.
Take role of influence. We all be inspired and all inspire.
In addition to Severn Suzuki, I met some groups which deal with sustainable power or Chernobyl medical support.
I’ve got many new perspective. I had a good time.
14日土曜日、福岡市ガスホール２４であったセヴァン・スズキの講演会に行った。
グーグルマップで見ると福岡県庁の近くのようだった。交通量が多そうな気がした。車の運転はしたくない。運転そのものはできるにしても、交差点でどっちへ行ったらいいのか、どの車線にいたらいいのか、わからない。前回だったか前々回だったか、福岡に行った時,道路端に車を停めて通行人に尋ねた。へとへとになった。
今回は筑紫野ゆめタウンまで行って車を置いてそこから博多駅行きのバスで蓮池で降りることにした。グーグルマップによると目的地はバス停から歩いて５分だ。
バスに乗るのは、自分で運転するより安全で快適だ。バスは都市高速道路を通った。IC乗車券を持っているお年寄りの人たちがいた。私もアレコレnimocaカードを使った。便利だ。
バスに乗っていると、車椅子の人が車椅子を荷物室に入れたいと言った。運転手さんは降りて行って荷物室に入れ、その男性が乗車し運転手さんも乗ってきた。時間がかかった。バンクーバーのバスを思った。床に板があって、運転手さんがそれを橋のように外側へ跳ね上げる。それがスロープになって車椅子やベビーカーが乗れる。あれは日本でも便利だろう。
ガスホールに着いた。若いお母さん、赤ちゃん、小さい子どもたちがたくさんいた。賑やかだった。
セヴァンはリオデジャネイロで伝説のスピーチをした人だが、ヴィクトリア大学で学んでいて２児の母だ。
セヴァンはフォートマクマレーの山火事のことを話した。非従来型のタールサンドとは何かということを説明した。かつてはコストが高すぎて使われなかったけれど、最近、従来型の石油が枯渇し始めた。それで、カナダの前政権が非従来型の石油の開発を決めた。これまでに１０万人の人が避難し家を失った。
セヴァンは、私たちが、この山火事や台風や洪水をもたらしていると言った。都市化により文化の多様性が失われている。
パリ気候変動協定のことを話した。それは大きな成功だった。パリ協定以前は排出ガスによる温度上昇は2度以内ならまあ安全とされていた。しかし、科学者たちが２度は暑すぎると言った。行動しなければ、温暖化は空前のレベルになり地球には住めなくなると言った。
科学者たちはこれまでも警告していた。しかし、大企業は温暖化について反対のことを喧伝してきた。それは私たち次第だ。
エネルギー資源を持続可能なものにしなければならない。カナダでは、日本において原発がそうであるように、タールサンドに関して透明性がなかった。エネルギー政策については、説明責任、多様性、責任が必要だ。
さらに、世代間における公平さが必要だ。ハンガリーのみ、将来世代のためのオンブズマンが存在する。
私たちが何をすべきか２つの観点から言える、ひとつは個人としてゴミを減らすこと、もうひとつは、政治課題でシステムを変えること。
気候問題は、政治をもっと公平に透明にするチャンスだ。
セヴァンは、たくさんの戦争に反対するお母さんたち、原発に反対するお母さんたちに会ったという。今は、歴史上もっともわくわくする時代かもしれない。新しい局面に跳び立つ。
おじいちゃんたちを政治の場に、おばあちゃんたちを政治の場に。
人に影響を与えよう。私たちみんな人から影響を受け、人に影響を与える。
セヴァン・スズキに加え、他にも持続可能エネルギー問題に取り組む人やチェルノブイリ医療支援に取り組む人に会った。
新しいことをたくさん知った。楽しかった。
