Movie Precious

On 22 Sept. from 7:40 pm I viewed a movie "Precious". "Precious" is based on a novel "Push".
I used to hope to see the movie after I've read the novel. A girl named Precious was abused by her parents and wasn't able to read. She was suspended from school because being second pregnant by her father. She went to an alternative school "Each one Teach one", where she learned to read and that she was worth to be loved.
Both her mother and her father --they weren't married and he had a wife-- just used her conveniently.
Her mother told the official worker on welfare department that she took care of her daughter and her grand daughter to get the aid. Her mother told her that learning to read was useless. And her mother didn't stop her father raping her.
She bore two babies, her daughter and son, or her half-sister and half-brother. It's awful.
She told the official of welfare the truth of her life with her mother, then decided to live on herself and bring up two children. She went to an Advancement House --a shelter for single mother--. One day her mother had come and said that her father had died from AIDS. She went to a hospital to be tested. She was HIV positive.
All her classmates felt sad but they encouraged her.

Isn't it a controversial method?
The Aid for the families with dependent children doesn't always guard children. If their parents hurt them, they can't know how and who ask for help before they become old enough to reckon how to save themselves.

I was impressed both the novel and movie. I love her vitality and sincerity. Sad to say, in the movie the classmates' episode was omitted.
I suppose the translation was so difficult. Precious wrote many diary, but as she didn't know how to spell the words, there were many mistakes. When it is translated another language, the translator have to make many mistakes in the sentences and words.

9月22日夜7時40分からの映画『プレシャス』を見た。　『プレシャス』は小説『プッシュ』を映画にしたもの。
小説を読んで映画を見たいと思っていた。　プレシャスという名の少女が両親に虐待され、字を読むこともできなかった。父親により2度目の妊娠をし、学校を退学になった。イーチワンティーチワンというオルタナティブスクールに行き、そこで字を読むことと、彼女自身愛される価値があることを学んだ。
　彼女の母親も父親も　--二人は結婚はしておらず父親には妻がいる--　彼女を便利に利用するだけだった。母親は福祉事務所に、彼女と孫娘の面倒をみているといい手当てを得ていた。彼女には読むことを覚えても何もならない、と言っていた。そして、彼女の父親が彼女に性的虐待をするのを止めなかった。
　彼女は赤んぼうを2人産んだ、彼女の娘と息子または腹違いの妹と弟を。ひどい。
彼女は福祉事務所に母親との生活の本当のことを話し、一人で子供を育てていくことを決意した。　シングルマザーのための向上の家に行った。　ある日、母親が面会にきて父親がエイズで亡くなったと言った。彼女は検査をしてもらった。感染していた。
　クラスメートは皆悲しみ、彼女を勇気づけた。
　
　考える余地のある方法ではないだろうか？
　子どものいる家族に支給する手当は必ずしも子ども達を守らない。もし、親が子どもを傷つけている場合、子どもは自分を救う道を理解できる年齢になるまで、どうやって誰に助けを求めればいいかわからない。

小説も映画もどちらも感動した。彼女の活力と一途さがとてもよかった。残念なことにクラスメートたちの話は映画では割愛されていた。
　翻訳はむずかしかったと思う。プレシャスはたくさんの日記を書いたが、文字の書き方を知らないのでたくさんの間違いがあった。他の言語に翻訳するときには訳者は文や語句にたくさんの間違いをしなくてはならない。
