Planting trees

I participated an event "Planting trees for biofuel to prevent global warming" with my daughter, on 14 March. It was held by Hita conference on the prevention of global warming.
Till half century ago, there were many natural forest which supply not only timber but also firewood and charcoal as family use energy.
From 50s the biofuel have been replaced by oil or gas. Recently as public concern over environmental issues grows stronger, the biofuel have come to be paid to attention again, because it is thought renewable energy sources with a minimum detrimental impact on the environment. So the Hita conference on the prevention of global warming suggest to grow forest.

From 10 a.m. we planted trees at Fushiki land held by Hita municipal government. We worked in pairs. I worked with my daughter. I made up a flat hexatube and folded both edges into inside. The hexatube is a tree-shelter made from polypropylene plastic, the hight is about 1.4 m. It protects the tree from deer to be eaten during about two years before it can root.
We planted one hundred sixty broadleaf trees by noon. Then we ate riceballs and butajiru. Yummy. It was cloudy, lucky it didn't rain.
I've decided to buy a pellet stove within this year. So I'm glad to have taken part in this event. Someday I might be able to buy pellets made from the trees grown up in this forest. My daughter is also satisfied.

3月14日　地球温暖化防止のための森林づくりに娘と参加しました。ひた地球温暖化防止協議会の催しです。
半世紀ほど前まで森林はふんだんにあり、木材以外に薪や炭といった家庭用エネルギーを供給していました。
50年代から木質燃料が石油やガスにとってかわられました。近年、環境問題に対する懸念が増して木質燃料が再び見直されています。再生可能なエネルギー源で環境負荷が最小限だからです。　それで、ひた地球温暖化防止協議会は森林づくりを提案しています。

　10時から伏木の市有林で植林をしました。二人一組になり、私は娘と組んで作業しました。たたんであるヘキサチューブを組み立て、両端を中に折りこみました。ヘキサチューブとはポリプロピレン樹脂でできた1.4メートルほどの保護管です。根付くまでの2年ほど苗木がシカに食べられるのを防ぎます。
　昼までに160本の苗木を植えました。それからおにぎりと豚汁を食べました。おいしい。その日はくもりで幸い雨は降りませんでした。
　今年はペレットストーブを買おうと決めているので、参加できてうれしいです。いつかこの林で育った木でできたペレットを買えるかもしれません。娘も満足しています。
